Visual composition affects the impact and message
of an image. Spatial relationships between
subjects, choice of lighting and changes in
perspective can influence how a photograph is
interpreted and received. In this course, students
will examine composition techniques including the
rule of thirds and the golden ratio, applying
depth of field, and exploring elements of art and
design to develop their lens-based skills. This
course does not include darkroom or computer lab
access. Students must bring their own 35mm or
digital (manual operation) camera, and have basic
exposure and light meter knowledge.
